A different kind of teacher training

You do not have to fit the image
of a yoga teacher to become one.

You do not have to be young, thin, flexible, athletic or able to perform advanced poses. Rose Temple Yoga School welcomes women over 40, beginners, plus-size students, people with limited mobility, and those living with chronic illness or physical limitations.

Your body belongs in yoga. Your wisdom belongs in the room.

One sacred journey

Choose your path

Both pathways share the heart of the training. Choose the destination that speaks to you—and know your calling may become clearer as the journey unfolds.

01

The teaching pathway

Learn to lead with compassion.

Complete the requirements to teach professionally. Learn to plan and guide safe, welcoming, accessible classes while developing your authentic teaching voice.

  • Practice teaching and feedback
  • Sequencing and class planning
  • Professional ethics and scope
  • 200-hour completion certificate
02

The personal & spiritual pathway

Deepen the practice within.

Receive the knowledge, experience and personal transformation of teacher training without the intention of teaching professionally.

  • Personal practice and reflection
  • Spiritual exploration
  • Body, mind and soul connection
  • A supportive sacred community

This may be your invitation

There is a place for you here.

You may have felt called toward yoga teaching while quietly wondering whether you were experienced, healthy, flexible or confident enough.

You want to make yoga welcoming to different bodies and abilities.

You are drawn to gentle, chair, restorative, Yin or somatic yoga.

You want spiritual depth—not a competitive fitness atmosphere.

You want to understand yoga as a way of living, not just a series of poses.

You feel called to help others reconnect with their bodies compassionately.

From Bertena Varney

A school created from lived experience.

I did not begin yoga as someone who naturally fit the image of a yoga teacher. I began in my forties while navigating significant health challenges. When I first expressed an interest in teacher training, I was told I was too sick to participate.

Instead of allowing that moment to end my journey, I found another teacher and another path. While working full time, I made a three-hour daily commute after nine-hour workdays to complete my training.

That experience changed my life. I created Rose Temple because no sincere student should be made to feel that yoga is not for them.

Rooted in tradition

Therapeutic lineage.
Inclusive purpose.

Bertena’s lineage is rooted in Thirumoolar’s Ashtanga Therapeutic Yoga through Dr. Asana Andiappan, passed to Mary Irby of White Crow Yoga and then to Bertena. This therapeutic tradition recognizes that yoga can—and should—be adapted to support the individual.
